Dear Reader,

Welcome to the world of Meditation or Tantra Sastra. Hinduism is not a religion. It is the collection of culture practiced over centuries from time immemorial.  Eastern thinking attained its goal in the search of the Ultimate power.

Through Vedanta, which you can go through in the pages for Upanishad, theoretical knowledge of the Ultimate is given out. Each and every Upanishad deals with this only topic. But, theoretical knowledge is only half way. What is the purpose of knowing onething?  What is the purpose of mere knowledge of the Ultimate?

Entire mankind is in search for peace and joy. It wants to avoid sorrow. If the knowledge of the Ultimate can be of any help in attaining this goal, only then, that knowledge is useful.

For example, if a man knows medicine for curing an ailment, there is no purpose served. Only if the knowledge is put into practice and an ailing man got relieved, the knowledge serves.

Moreover, you might have come across “One who knows this...” phrase in all the Upanishads. But, Upanishad is silent on the way for knowing it.  Certainly, mere reading or understanding or even by-hearting the entire Upanishad will not work.

That way of knowing the Ultimate, experiencing the Ultimame is called Meditation or Tantra Sastra in Hinduism. By following this path, whatever is said in the Upanishads shall be experienced.

In Tantra Sastra,  Vignyana Bhairava Tantra  is the set of basic Meditation Techniques. This is the oldest work available on earth in this subject.

Vignyana Bhairava Tantra, in Hindu literature, is given out by Lord Shiva to his consort Devi. Actually, Devi raises certain doubts and Shive gives out these techniques as a reply.

There are some writers with western thinking who say that this is a mere story and this is the Hindu way of attaching importance to any literature. But, Hinduism never tries to attach importance to any work. If you have gone through the sub page styled ‘Gods and Godesses’ of this site, you will be able to understand that “Shiva gave out this literature” means it is received from tranquillity.

Entire Veda, its organs and other sub – Vedas are also received from tranquillity alone. Hence, Vignyana Bhairava Tantra was given out by Shiva himself.

But, if shiva decides to reveal a thing, he can very well do. What is the purpose of Devi raising certain questions?

There is a purpose. Any worthy thing should not be revealed to anybody who has no interest in it. Hence, Devi wants to have her doubts cleared which was done through this revelations.

Devi has raised Seven doubts and Shiva has given out 112 Techniques. But, Vignyana Bhairava Tantra is only for seekers. For beginers and those who wish to use meditation as medication, some simple meditation techniques are given in the subpage. These pages on meditation will be frequently updated. Hence, keep visiting periodically and update yourself.  Please read the DISCLAIMER in the relevant pages.
